Magna Publishing Purchases Club Magazines

PARAMUS, N.J. — Magna Publishing Group, publishers of men’s sophisticate titles, has purchased Club, Club International and other adult magazines from Club Media Inc., XBIZ has learned.

The magazines under the Magna Publishing banner are well-known titles that include Swank, Fox, Velvet, Gallery, Gent and Genesis accounting for nearly 60 total adult titles. The four titles acquired from Club Media are Club, Club International, Club Confidential and the Best of Club.

Magna Publishing already was the largest publisher of men’s sophisticate titles in the U.S. and acquiring Club and Club International makes it even more of a giant in the market. Club, and particularly the U.K.-based Club International, founded by the late Paul Raymond in 1972, are both enormously popular titles.

Magna Publishing’s Editor-in-Chief/Editorial Director Dan Davis told XBIZ that the deal was finalized late last week.

“For us, it gives us more of the men’s magazine market share,” Davis said. “We’re excited to continue the fine tradition of Club magazines.”

Davis said that the look and feel of the Club titles would remain intact. Magna Publishing takes over operations on the Club titles starting with the January 2010 issues.
