LOS ANGELES —ASACP has released a new public service announcement explaining how to report online child pornography.

"ASACP's CP hotline receives an average of 7,000 reports each month; however, coming across CP on the Internet is a situation few are prepared for," ASACP CEO Joan Irvine said. "What makes it so difficult is the shock of seeing the image of a very young child, even babies, being horribly sexually abused. It's so upsetting that many people have a hard time properly reporting what they've seen. That is why ASACP created this new PSA on how to report CP."

ASACP's "How to Report Child Pornography" PSA explains exactly what steps computer users should take when they encounter suspect child pornography online.

"Sexual exploitation of children is a heinous crime and reporting it could help save a child from being further victimized," the PSA says. "However, when reporting child sexual exploitation, it could be just as important to know what not to do as it is to know what to do in order to not become criminally liable for the possession or distribution of child pornography."

The video is currently available for viewing here.

Founded in 1996, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating child pornography from the Internet. ASACP also works to help parents prevent children from viewing age-inappropriate material online.
