Book Takes Candid Look at Las Vegas Strip Club Architecture

LAS VEGAS — Photographer Julie Cook spent six years working on “Some Las Vegas Strip Clubs,” a just-released coffee table book that takes readers into the world of Las Vegas striptease.

But the book might be a surprise: It focuses on the interior and exterior architecture of the dozen or so gentlemen’s clubs and not the strippers when the lights go low.

Cook’s shots look at all parts of the numerous strip clubs, from the marquees to the stripper poles to the VIP lap-dancing areas. She even takes a look at the parking lots and the lobbies of the clubs.

It’s the second book of its kind for Cook, a senior lecturer on Photography at University of East London, who has a self-described interest in sexuality and voyeurism, attempts to delve into the desire for fantasy and escape in Western culture.

Cook’s other publications include “Baby Oil and Ice, Striptease in East London” (Do-Not Press 2002), “Zeropolis, The Experience of Las Vegas” (Reaktion 2003) and “The Las Vegas Diaries” (Back in Black Publishing 2005).

“Some Las Vegas Strip Clubs” is available via Blurb.com for $39.
