Carla Gugino to Play Adult Star in New Movie

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Movie star Carla Gugino is set to reprise her role as an adult film star in a sequel to a movie that hasn’t even come out yet.

Gugino will play fictional adult star Elektra Luxx in the upcoming film of the same name. The movie is itself a sequel to an unreleased picture called “Women in Trouble,” which follows the lives of 10 Los Angeles women over the course of one day.

“Elektra Luxx” follows a similar structure, chronicling the events among a group of women, this time a month later. The new movie stars Gugino, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Adrianne Palicki, Marley Shelton, Connie Britton, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Simon Baker, Tim Olyphant, Alicia Silverstone and Justin Kirk.

The new movie focuses on Gugino’s porn star character, whose life is thrown into disarray when she discovers she’s pregnant. Writer-director Sebastian Gutierrez has a third chapter planned, too.

Gugino’s role comes during a solid year for adult characters – and performers – in mainstream media. Adult performer Sasha Grey scored the lead role in Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming movie, "The Girlfriend Experience."

A biopic about the life of Linda Lovelace is also in the works, although its highest-profile star dropped out: Anna Faris, who had been a longtime champion for the project. Despite that setback, the screenplay, "Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story," made Hollywood's Black List, an informal list of the hottest unproduced screenplays of the year.
