Attorney Gregory Piccionelli Urges Industry Support of ASACP

LOS ANGELES — Noted adult industry attorney Gregory Piccionelli has written an open letter to the adult industry calling for support of the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP).

The letter discusses the current changes coming to Washington with President-elect Barack Obama.

"It is very unlikely that either the Obama administration or the current Congress will engage moral activism in any manner resembling what we've seen under the Bush Administration," Piccionelli states in the letter. "But while federal obscenity and 2257 prosecutions are far less likely under Obama than they have been under Bush, there is a greater likelihood that Congress and the new administration will revisit the issue of how to best protect children from exposure to adult content."

Piccionelli goes on the discuss how this is "a golden opportunity for change" and that "no adult industry organization is better positioned than ASACP to credibly advance the idea that government actions regarding sexual content should focus exclusively on the effective protection of children."

"The adult industry completely funds our ability to operate our child pornography reporting hotline; to offer the Restricted To Adults (RTA) website label free of charge; and makes it possible for us to go to D.C. to let lawmakers know what the adult industry is doing to protect children," ASACP CEO Joan Irvine said. "During these troubling economic times we have seen a drop in sponsorship making it more difficult to maintain our efforts in D.C. since our primary mission is to run a child pornography reporting hotline, provide the RTA, and develop new technology for child protection."

According to the organization, Piccionelli has provided support to ASACP since 2002, including valuable assistance in preparation for the rollout of the RTA website labeling initiative in 2006. A co-founder of pioneering Los Angeles-based intellectual property and entertainment law firm Piccionelli & Sarno, Mr. Piccionelli is one of the nation's most experienced and respected Internet and adult entertainment attorneys. He also received the ASACP Service Recognition Award in 2006.

"We would like to thank Greg Piccionelli for writing this letter and letting the industry know exactly how important it is to support ASACP," Irvine added.

Founded in 1996, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating child pornography from the Internet and preventing children from viewing age-inappropriate material online via the Restricted to Adults (RTA) website label.
