Erotic DVD Firm Donates to Calif. No on 8 Vote

NEW YORK — Erotic DVD producer and distributor Comstock Films plans to support the No on 8 campaign by donating its revenue during a 27-hour sale.

On Oct. 28, from midnight East Coast Time to midnight Pacific Time, 100% of the purchase price on Comstock's erotic documentary DVDs, excluding shipping and handling, will go to the No on Proposition 8 campaign.

The proposition seeks to overrule the recent legalization of same-sex weddings in Calif.

Documentary filmmaker Tony Comstock with his wife operate Comstock Films. Previously, they held a similar sale that netted $4,000 for hurricane Katrina relief.

"On Friday, we saw that Apple was donating $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign and said, 'we could do the same thing,'" Comstock told XBIZ.

"It's something that we have a stake in. We very much have a dog in this fight."

Comstock's erotic DVDs feature intimate couples and are shot in the documentary vein. Their films have played in Australia, North America, Europe and Israel and have taken several awards including Best Foreign Film & Director in Melbourne, Australia's Underground Film Festival.

Comstock Films can be reached online or by email.
