FSC Plans Internet Anti-piracy Summit

LOS ANGELES — The Free Speech Coalition will host what it calls a first-of-its-kind summit on anti-piracy efforts and business opportunities in the digital realm.

Scheduled for November 18, professionals from the adult entertainment, film, music and video game industries will convene at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City, California, for the private summit, entitled "How to Survive and Thrive in the Digital Environment ... From the People Who Know."

The program will feature the leading professionals from the business and legal communities who are literally creating the “rules of the road” for dealing with the complex mix of issues concerning the ownership and lawful exploitation of copyrighted content in the digital age.

"Our industry is facing crucial business challenges and tremendous opportunities in the digital realm," Diane Duke, executive director of the adult entertainment industry trade association, Free Speech Coalition, said. “This summit grew out of a need articulated by the members of the Free Speech Coalition to address what has become an increasingly more challenging yet potentially profitable time for the adult entertainment industry as it relates to the all aspects of the digital realm.”

Among the speakers at the one-day conference will be strategic leaders from mainstream entertainment companies and trade groups who have developed legal theories and sound business practices to successfully challenge the piracy of intellectual property in their industries while simultaneously capitalizing on the tremendous opportunities presented by the Internet and related technologies.

"As other entertainment industries' experience has shown, trade associations can play a critical role in protecting content and maximizing opportunities through litigation, legislative efforts and business solutions," Duke said.

The conference will be for members of the Free Speech Coalition and other leading business, legal, and strategic participants in the adult entertainment industry. It will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is co-sponsored by Jenner & Block LLP and Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp LLP.

Established in 1991, the Free Speech Coalition’s mission is to lead, protect and support the growth and well-being of the adult entertainment community.
