Fundamentalities

You have to admit: the adult industry puts the fun in dysfunctional. Every day there seems to be a new influx of people coming in to try their hand at making their fortune in porn. Those who have long been making money at this are sometimes stunned at how difficult it can be these days, and some even take it upon themselves to try and assist the newbs in need.

However, there are a few fundamentals that many of the incoming crew are not familiar with, and seemingly don’t want to hear, much less practice. It’s high time to address these, and for those of you who are regular Tala readers, you know that this is the cue for a redhead rant.

Those of you who are new to this business, the memo needs to get through to you. This is not an overnight express to cash. You are going to have to apply yourself, which will involve learning. You know-that stuff you did back in school? You’re going to have to do it again.

You’re going to have to learn about your niche. You’re going to have to learn about your preferences, such as design, writing, marketing, etc. Take stock in yourself and find out what you do best, and then learn how to apply it to what you want to achieve.

Yes, this takes thought. It takes planning and more time than you might realize. It also takes investment capital, much like any other business.

You see, that is the key. This is a business. It is an extremely profitable business, indeed, especially if you know how to run a business. It’s more than throwing together a website and uploading it and praying that you start to see some revenue. Those days are LONG gone.

It’s contacts, it’s knowing yourself, and it’s all in the game. A very serious game in which money talks and bullshit walks. I’ve seen enough bullshit to last me a lifetime, and with each passing day, I see more of it come through the proverbial revolving doors.

If you really want to succeed, you will. You will market yourself and your stuff to the right people in the best possible way. You will take the time to learn more every damn day and you will be glad to do it, because with each thing you learn, you will add to the arsenal of knowledge that may well help you on your way to becoming financially stable at the very least.

The very thought of infinite riches and instant wealth is a great lure, isn’t it? You can see it everywhere you turn. I've got news for you: It’s all bullshit. There is no such thing as instant wealth unless you’re one of the very few lucky sots who happens to win the lottery. Nine times out of ten, those sots are completely broke and in debt less than two years after winning, too. Guess why.

If you’re offended by this, there’s probably a really good reason for it. Perhaps it hits home a little too hard. Nerts.

Time to take stock in yourself and ask yourself why you’re here. Are you here to run a business, or are you here because you thought it was an easy way to make fast cash? If you are really ready to run a business and know in your heart of hearts that you are going to be able to at least give it a good honest run, then I commend you and wish you the very best.

But if you’re a bottom feeder looking for a quick buck, then I have a suggestion: There are people who are looking for some new faces in the amateur, gay, hardcore, and reality niches who wouldn’t mind plunking down a few hundred bucks to film you. That’s about the easiest way you’re going to make a fast buck these days.

Take care of yourselves! ~ Tala

What DSA and GDPR Enforcement Means for Adult Platforms

A declined transaction isn’t just a technical error; it’s lost revenue you fought hard to earn. How Adult Businesses Can Navigate Global Compliance Demands

The internet has made the world feel small. Case in point: Adult websites based in the U.S. are now getting letters from regulators demanding compliance with foreign laws, even if they don’t operate in those countries. Meanwhile, some U.S. website operators dealing with the patchwork of state-level age verification laws have considered incorporating offshore in the hopes of avoiding these new obligations — but even operators with no physical presence in the U.S. have been sued or threatened with claims for not following state AV laws.

Every week, it seems, a new agency emerges, promising to turn creators into stars, automate their fan interactions or triple their revenue through “secret” social strategies. The reality? Building Sustainable Revenue Without Opt-Out Cross-Sales

Over the past year, we’ve seen growing pushback from acquirers on merchants using opt-out cross-sales — also known as negative option offers. This has been especially noticeable in the U.S. In fact, one of our acquirers now declines new merchants during onboarding if an opt-out flow is detected. Existing merchants submitting new URLs with opt-out cross-sales are being asked to remove them.

How to Handle Payment Disputes Without Sacrificing Trust

You can run the best-managed and most compliant website out there, but that still doesn’t completely shield you from the risks tied to payment disputes. Buyer’s remorse, an unclear billing description or even a simple misunderstanding can lead a customer to dispute a transaction. Accumulate enough disputes, and both your reputation and revenue could be at risk.
