Encouraging Community Amidst Competition

Encouraging Community Amidst Competition

Over the years, I have worked with some of the most successful cam models in the industry, and during that time I’ve noticed a few things they all have in common. They work hard, they truly enjoy what they do and most importantly, they always show support for the cam model community. Whether it’s Alana Evans and her unwavering activism for sex worker rights or Alena Croft mentoring aspiring cam starlets, these models treat their fellow performers not as competition, but as equally beautiful and talented people who strive for success.

One cam model who knows the importance of community all too well is Alora Jaymes, a longtime adult performer, cosplayer and cam model rights advocate who is well-respected for both for her work ethic and her willingness to lend a helping hand to fellow cam models whenever she can.

“I think it’s very important to stick together because far too many of us know that once our secret is out about working in the sex industry, people could turn on us and cut us out of their lives ... including longtime friends and family. That kind of change in a person’s life could cause severe depression if they have no one else to turn to, so I think it’s very important for other models to get more involved with their community,” she says.

Always on the lookout for ways to help other models, Jaymes and her roommates recently decided to open up their home to traveling performers who need a place to stay while they are in town. Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, Jaymes travels much of the year and during those trips connects with other models who often lament about not having affordable, safe housing when visiting a new city.

“I kept hearing from traveling models about how hosts can be very creepy and try to get extra things from you,” she said. “I think it’s very important for models to feel safe outside their home in their travels.”

In addition to offering a safe space to sleep, Jaymes also offers a place to shoot content, stressing that rather than competing with each other, models should instead work together and learn from one another whenever possible.

“I think it’s important to work together and build relationships with fellow models because there’s no need to be in competition with one another. More heads are better than one, and if we learn to open up and listen to each other rather than judge on numbers we could learn new ways of doing things, viewing things and come up with content by combining each of our own different strengths,” she adds.

One way she plans to encourage this is by hosting monthly parties at her home for models who want to dress up in themed outfits and shoot high-quality content together. She says that in addition to being financially lucrative for all those involved, it’s a great way for models to meet, mingle, and ultimately build lasting friendships within the community.

“In this industry we get a lot of hate from outsiders, so there’s absolutely no need to fuel that further by hating each other inside this industry. There’s enough money out there for us all to succeed and we need to stop being afraid that it will run out. We just need to learn how to get our content out there together and keep having fun creating it!”
