Land of the Amazons

Land of the Amazons is like one of those movies you find on TNT late night, replete with sexy ladies brandishing spears and bows, grunting and growling through a campy adventure purely designed to show them in as little clothing as possible. Most of the joy from watching these films comes from how laughably bad they are.

Well, this is a tribute to those flicks, though these filmmakers are obviously able to go much further with the T&A.

The film follows the exploits of five campers (four guys and a girl) who, while embarking on a leisurely hike, are captured by Amazons that have one thing on their mind (and if you have to ask what that is, then you're obviously watching the wrong film).

The movie's as silly as you'd expect, but the narrative honestly wasn't very compelling (whether it be for the schmaltzy acting or writing, I don't know). Normally I love narratives, but I really wanted these people to just fuck already.

I'm sure I also don't need to point out the absurdity of Amazons living in the forests of Southern California, but I just can't help myself. It's absurd. There, I said it. (Though again, I think that's the point of this homage.)

I also found it infinitely amusing that the guys are supposed to be hopelessly lost in the jungle, yet you can clearly see the city in the background of several shots.

I must make particular note here that one of the flick's stars, Yvette Bova, is truly friggin huge. She's an immensely muscular ebony woman, and when I say muscular, I'm talkin' "Arnold Schwarzeneggar circa 1979" big. She is, indeed, an Amazon and must be seen to be believed.

The rest of the film is good (and the sex is pretty great). The cast (if you're discounting the acting) is exceptional -- it includes one of my favorite round bottomed hotties, Naomi. The film is also notable in that it features star Mikayla's first guy/girl scene.

All in all, I was a little disappointed in the storyline. As it stands, it feels like a lot of the space in this film could have been used for more sex (yes, this is one of the few times where I'd have preferred the gonzo treatment.)
