WIA Profile: Lea Busick

Each month, industry news media organization XBIZ spotlights the career accomplishments and outstanding contributions of Women in Adult. WIA profiles offer an intimate look at the professional lives of the industry's most influential female executives.

What did you do prior to working in the adult industry?

When our customers are unhappy... I'm unhappy.

Prior to adult I held director of marketing positions for Citigroup and FinanCenter (financial services software). I've also done stints in consumer electronics, printing and publishing. At Citigroup (in Chicago) I managed one of the new premium card products. [It was] interesting business, financial services, but I find adult much more interesting and cutting-edge.

Has your background in mainstream marketing helped in terms of working in the adult industry, or is marketing within the adult space a completely unrelated game?

Yes, I find it's been extremely helpful not just in terms of marketing, but also in terms of developing good business acumen. Working in mainstream has taught me the value of developing and executing strategic plans, maintaining the core business, and planning for future business. It also taught me the value of developing solid business relationships and exhibiting a professional attitude. Finally, it's where I've been able to craft and hone my solid management skills.

What's your favorite thing about working in the adult industry?

I love working in an industry that is cutting-edge in terms of technology and marketing. There are so many bright and talented people in this industry who truly think out of the box and are passionate about their work. I love the esprit de corps and I love that there's plenty of money to go around! I've made some wonderful connections with the people in this industry and I value their friendship and knowledge.

How about your least favorite thing about working in the adult industry?

When our customers are unhappy... I'm unhappy.

What advice would you give to other women breaking into the corporate side of the adult industry (women who aren't looking to be models/talent)?

I'd tell other women there is tremendous growth and respect for women in this business — perhaps more so than any other industry. It's important to know yourself and what you stand for professionally. And although it's a fun business, it's very important to remain professional at all times and be sure to ask questions about anything and everything.

The Perils of Relying on ChatGPT for Legal Advice

It surprised me how many people admitted that they had used ChatGPT or similar services either to draft legal documents or to provide legal advice. “Surprised” is probably an understatement of my reaction to learning about this, as “horrified” more accurately describes my emotional response.
