" I don't know if I really have much balance in my life "

Each month, in conjunction with adult media company XBIZ, a new WIA member is profiled in the pages of XBIZ World and XBIZ Premiere magazines to highlight her career accomplishments, dedication to her trade and outstanding contribution to the adult community. Women like BurningAngel.com owner Joanna Angel.

What is your role and responsibility at Burning Angel?

Oh jeeze! What is not my role and responsibility is a better question. I do a little of everything — I update my website (both JoannaAngel.com and BurningAngel.com), I pick and chose what content goes where and write friendly little messages to display it. I deal with my graphic designer and throw more projects at him than he can handle, whether it's making 8 x 10s, posters, banners, box covers and websites. I book shoots, go through model applications, find locations, come up with the scenarios for the movies and scenes, I do a lot of promotions and appearances, interviews like these. I try to come up with new and exciting ways to promote my product and try to figure out where the people are who like weird porn like mine and then figure out how to reach them. I put events together, then I make sure everyone who is supposed to show up shows up. And, oh yeah, on the fun days I get to put things in my ass on camera and write in my blog.

What are your goals for Burning Angel in 2008?

I want to do everything we are doing, just a lot better. I want to put out more movies, launch more websites, find more girls, throw more parties — and I'd like for us to make enough money so I can afford some kind of expensive massage once a week. The ones where people put warm towels all over you, play nice soothing music and squeeze the lumps out of your back? One of those a week would be pretty rad.

Describe your typical workday.

Monday morning I woke up and unpacked my car from the Musink show, put away all the T-shirts, posters and crap that was in my car. Then I sat by my computer for like five hours and answered emails from all the people who emailed me the week before that I didn't get back to because I was preparing for the convention. Then around 5 p.m. I had a business meeting. On the way to the meeting I talked on the phone with my employees in New York and checked in with all of them. Then around 7 p.m. I went to a shoot I booked. The shoot went until 11 p.m. I came home and then tried to do my taxes but I got really bored. I went upstairs and went to get a snack because I forgot to eat all day and while I was bending over reaching for a yogurt on the bottom shelf my boyfriend started having sex with me. I really needed this, but right as I was about to come I realized that my website is running low on content so I screamed, "Wait! Go get the camera." So we had to ruin the moment, get the camera, prop it up somewhere and pretend that we just started fucking.

What is the biggest challenge to being a woman in the adult entertainment industry?

Sometimes people assume that you will just fuck anyone, anywhere, anyhow and anytime and that can be annoying. People just don't take you seriously at first. I also think, the biggest challenge to being a woman is dealing with the other women. It seems like most of the guys in this industry are friends with each other, even if there is a healthy sense of competition underlying the friendship. However, the women in this industry can really tend to be very competitive and nasty with one another, and it sucks. It really shouldn't be like that.

How do you maintain balance in your life? Balance?

I don't know, I mean, I love what I do and I'm really happy with my life. Sometimes I get stressed out and frustrated, but I would much rather be stressing over this than like, the bullshit you deal with at a regular job. I don't know if I really have much balance in my life to be honest — but who needs balance! Balance is so not punk rock.
