What's Your Web Page Click Density?

Do You Know?

You may as well get used to it - my entries are going to be all over the map! I've got so many ideas and interests, and have been exposed to so much the last six years, when I sit down to write a blog entry or three - it's like that silo scene toward the end of Witness. I have so much to share - well, keep checking in, because you never know what's coming and you never know what will be most useful.

Click Density has now evolved into a very useful tool for Web developers. What does Click Density do that sets it apart from other statistical analysis tools? Like other programs, you just add a small segment of JavaScript to the pages that you wish to view results for, and every time a visitor clicks on something on your pages, the data is sent to the Click Density servers where it is used to generate your reports.

Click Density functions by placing an “x / y” coordinate grid right over your Web pages; 100% undetectable to all your site visitors. The grid records the coordinates of absolutely every click on the page [even clicks on non-linked items!] and generates heat maps and other reports which can help you see in a whole new way what your visitors are doing while navigating your pages. In a sense, you can become that ‘fly on the wall’ watching every move your visitors make!

Again, this system is 100% invisible on your Web pages – visitors will have no idea that their every move is being recorded. As the JavaScript is loaded a very minute increase in page-load time may occur, but chances are the increase will be so small that your visitors won’t be aware of it. Click Density supports Web pages that are up to 32,768 x 32,768 pixels in size – outside of those parameters the clicks won’t be counted. The supported dimensions are actually quite large when you consider most monitors are 1024x768 pixels.

Unlike other statistic programs and Web analytic tools, Click Density gives you a whole new way to see what is happening. It actually analyzes the “user’s experience” on your site so that you can see both what they are clicking on and not clicking on while on your website. By adding Click Density to your analytical arsenal, you can see another layer of information that has been unavailable to developers until now, replacing the one-dimensional picture given by the typical tools.

How to Get It

Set-up is simple – you just follow the instructions on how to add Click Density to your site with a few lines of JavaScript code and you’re on your way. You can get a 30-day trial download version of Click Density by visiting ClickDensity.com.
