Stay Current with Wordpress Updates

WordPress has grown to become one of the dominant publishing platforms in use by the online adult entertainment industry, due to its “free” cost and powerful feature set — yet some question the frequency of its update schedule and the necessity of following it.

The short course: always update WordPress as soon as an update becomes available, because among other issues, deprecated code and bad plugins make it vulnerable.

Since the feature set is upgraded as often as its security functions, WordPress users enjoy sometimes significant improvements.

There are at least three very good reasons for keeping your WordPress installation updated, including the fact that it helps keep your website more secure; maintains its compatibility with plugins; and enables you to use all of the latest features.

On the security front, the Open Source nature of Word-Press means that as security updates are released, hackers get them too. Plugins become problematic because new ones may require the latest version of WordPress, while poorly coded ones may break with an upgrade. This last problem is also endemic to poorly produced themes.

In these last instances, the cause of breakage is often traced to modifications of the core WordPress files — something that bad plugins and themes tend to unnecessarily do.

Since the feature set is upgraded as often as its security functions, WordPress users enjoy sometimes significant (and surprising) improvements on a fairly regular basis — and making use of these enhancements can provide a competitive advantage.
