CALGARY, Alberta — Erika Lust will be appearing tonight at a special “A Night of Lust” screening event at the Globe Cinema in Calgary, celebrating International Women’s Day.
This is Lust’s first appearance in the country, and she will be screening six of her XConfessions short films.
“A Night of Lust” will feature “a selection of explicit short films that aims to inspire the audience with regard to their relationship with pleasure and sex,” a rep noted.
Founded in 2020, A League of Their Own is a monthly screening series at the Globe Cinema in Calgary. Programmed by Morgan Cairns, the series showcases notable films from women filmmakers.
“I am incredibly excited to bring this unique and provocative event to Calgary audiences,” Cairns said. “A League of Their Own started as a way to celebrate female directors, and not only is Erika Lust an incredible filmmaker, but her work is also empowering and groundbreaking, both on the screen and behind the scenes.”
Lust said she was delighted to be collaborating with A League of Their Own on the screening.
“The last event we had in Barcelona was a great success and a lot of fun,” she enthused. “Seeing 500 people watching erotic movies together like it used to happen back in the 1970s and 1980s, the ‘Golden Age of Porn,’ left me speechless, so when Morgan reached out to us to bring it to Canada I knew we couldn’t refuse.
“We need more spaces that openly celebrate sexuality,” Lust added.
“A Night of Lust” takes place tonight at the Globe Cinema at 8 p.m.
