Adam & Eve Survey: Half of American Women Own Sex Toys

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Online adult retailer AdamAndEve.com commissioned a survey to ask more than 1,000 adults about the number of sex toys they own, with surprising results. Out of half the women queried, almost half admitted to owning at least one.

While 54 percent of the female respondents said they did not own any adult toys, 41 percent admitted they owned at least one, and an additional 4.5 percent said they owned six or more.

When asked the same question, 64.5 percent of men said they didn’t own a sex toy, but 31.7 percent owned at least one and 3.8 percent owned six or more.

“I would like to see these numbers much higher,” said Dr. Kat Van Kirk, resident sexpert for AdamAndEve.com. “Adult toys can bring an added dimension of pleasure to both solo and couples’ play. A large part of a healthy sex life is learning what pleases us … and for many adult, toys help us reach that goal faster, easier and better.”

“Adam & Eve encourages adults to explore their sexuality and educate themselves on everything from sexual health to pleasure enhancement,” added Chad David, AdamAndEve.com’s director of marketing.

The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third party survey company, of more than 1,000 American adults age 18 and over, was sponsored by Adam & Eve to study sexual preferences and practices.
