PineApp Offers New Antiporn 'MegaFilter' for its Mail-SeCure Appliances

IRVINE, Calif. — PineApp Corporation, a global provider of email and network security hardware, is now shipping Mail-SeCure v3.6 with Porn MegaFilter, a new antiporn engine that can eliminate adult material from corporate email systems.

“Pornography in the workplace and especially in government and educational institutions is intrusive, offensive and expensive, costing millions of dollars in wasted time and potential sexual harassment lawsuits,” PineApp President Jacob Fox said. “Our Porn MegaFilter automatically detects and blocks incoming and outgoing pornographic pictures as well as pictures embedded in PowerPoint presentations, videos and other media. And by using advanced image processing technologies, we can help our customers to comply with the required procedures and protect them from legal action.”

The PineApp filter is allied with Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), a British organization involved with fighting child pornography, child abuse and pedophilia. IWF maintains and updates a database of current child pornography websites. The connection allows Porn MegaFilter to identify email with links to child pornography websites, block them and notify the administrator that the link is being sent.

"Corporations have been using such services for years," ASACP Executive Director Joan Irvine told XBIZ. "It is a corporation’s right to limit access to whatever sites or content they wish for their employees. After all, the company does own the computer, network, and is paying their employees to do a specific job. However, there is a liability concern – what if someone has adult entertainment on their monitor and a child passes by? That is certainly something to consider in addition to the possible benefits of the filtering software preventing someone from being exposed to child pornography."

The Mail-SeCure hardware protects organizations from targeted and non-targeted email-related threats by providing a buffer between the Internet and an organization’s email systems using perimeter security layers. Using multi-layer antivirus and antispam/antiphishing systems, Mail-SeCure inspects all email traffic and protects the network from known and emerging threats including viruses and new-age virus outbreaks, worms and Trojan horses.

Current Mail-SeCure users who wish to add the Porn MegaFilter to their Mail-SeCure appliances can download a 30-day free trial from PineApp’s website. Upon purchase of the filter, PineApp will activate the software key.
