AdultFriendFinder Survey Puts Spin on Sex

PALO ALTO, Calif. — Online dating company FriendFinder, in a bid to generate more interest to its adult dating websites, has released results of an online survey on sex deprivation.

Forty-five percent of more than 11,000 members responding to AdultFriendFinder’s non-scientific survey said they can't go more than a week without showing signs of deprivation. But 14 percent said they are "masters of their own domain" and can go sexless indefinitely.

The survey shows men need — or at least want — sex more. Forty-four percent said they can't go more than a week, while only 34 percent of women gave the same answer.

The most sex-hungry were couples — 65 percent said a week is their limit. Five percent of couples report they can go without sex indefinitely.

Only 14 percent of men and 18 percent of women said they can go from a month to a couple of months without sex.

The same survey on online site OutPersonals revealed 51 percent of more than 1,000 gay male members said they can't go more than a week. Nineteen percent said they can go without sex for several months, a year or even indefinitely. Only 12 percent of gay men said they can go without for a month to a couple of months.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based FriendFinder Inc. operates social-networking sites Alto.com, Outpersonals.com and Lesbianpersonals.com, as well as AdultFriendFinder.com.

The privately held company has 90 million registered members since its inception in 1996.

Earlier this month, the company struck a deal with Las Vegas-based Streamray, with hopes of becoming the No. 1 cam company in the industry. Streamray operates Cams.com and other pay-per-minute video feed services.

Under the terms of the deal, Streamray is handling all of Friendfinder's cam features, which the company has been using more broadly within its 20 multicultural and multilingual sites, including the Friendfinder network.
