Playboy to Open Las Vegas Club in 2006

LAS VEGAS — The Palms Casino Resort has partnered with Playboy Enterprises Inc. to develop a nightclub and lounge for its new tower, which will feature a huge rabbit head on its side, Playboy Director of Communications Bill Farley told XBiz Wednesday.

The long-term licensing agreement calls for Playboy to help develop the new expansion and for the Palms Resort Casino and professional nightclub owners Nine Group to operate the Playboy-themed operation.

“The Playboy lifestyle is a natural fit for Las Vegas, but the key for us has always been finding the right partners to fulfill the promise of our brand,” said Playboy founder Hugh Hefner in a statement issued this morning.

Under the agreement, the top five floors of the new tower will be the “Playboy area,” and will feature a boutique casino, several retail shops, a restaurant, sky villa and a huge, illuminated rabbit head on the outside of the tower.

“You’ll be able to see it from all over the Strip,” said Farley.

Farley also said that the expansion will feature a special suite dedicated to Hugh Hefner that includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

The new expansion is slated to open in early 2006, almost twenty years after the final Playboy Club shut its doors.

At its heyday, there were approximately 40 Playboy Clubs in seven different countries, but the last U.S. club closed its doors in 1986 as women became a larger part of the club-going crowd and profits dropped.
