After joining forces with veteran porn journalist Gene Ross less than a year ago to promote KSEXradio and pool journalistic resources, Wankus attributes his retirement from AdultFYI to a busy schedule and a need to consolidate responsibilities, although he will continue to make contributions to AdultFYI on a limited basis, Wankus told XBiz.
"I originally did it to get attention for KSEX," Wankus said. "But then it became a fun hobby to actually write adult news."
Wankus will also continue his monthly column for Nightmoves USA publications, part of a family of nationwide publications that cover the adult industry.
"If anyone's trying to read between the lines here, they'll develop myopia," Ross told XBiz. "Because of his growing KSEX commitments, Wankus didn't have the time to devote to this site. Such being the case for months, he finally felt the need to make a public statement about it. Nothing more, nothing less."
Wankus is co-owner of KSEXradio.com with Chris Rick, which was founded by Rick and his now-deceased brother Mike, both major contributors to the early foundations of the online adult industry.
Under separate ownership, KSEX was previously an uncensored sex talk show until the Rick brothers purchased the business in 2000 and relocated offices to Burbank, Calif. where they could be closer to porn culture.
"We didn't have anyone in San Diego who could run the thing, and we wanted to be closer to where all the adult stars were," Wankus told XBiz.
KSEX just released the DVD and video-on-demand version of the KSEX Games 2004, an Olympic-style porn sporting event. The company is also slated to release its first feature titled "Sexual Frequency" through a distribution deal with Adam & Eve, also a sponsor of KSEXradio.
"It's a look at on and off the air at KSEX radio," said Wankus. "It looks like what the real shows look like – not scripted – a live, impromptu thing with hardcore sex and all the crazy things that go on. At KSEX you never know what's going to happen."
KSEXradio airs live Monday-Friday from 5 p.m.-midnight. Tonight Wankus is joined by Wicked Pictures contract girl Jessica Drake.
