FSC: 'Clean Sweep' for Largest Calif. Papers Opposed to Prop 60

CHATSWORTH, Calif. — The Orange County Register and the Los Angeles Daily News have joined sister publication the Long Beach Press-Telegram in urging a “no” vote on Proposition 60.

All of those daily papers are operated by Southern California News Group, a division of Digital First Media, which publish eight others in California.

Mike Stabile, communications director for adult entertainment trade group Free Speech Coalition, which is opposed to Prop 60, said that the number of editorials by the largest circulated California papers that support a “no” vote on the measure is significant.

“Every one of the seven largest papers in California [is] opposing the initiative,” Stabile said. “A clean sweep!”

The Orange County Register and Los Angeles Daily News editorials over Prop 60 duplicate the Long Beach Press-Telegram’s and state that, if passed, Prop 60 “could be exploited by people trying to damage a controversial business or earn a cut of a resulting fine.”

The Los Angeles Daily News, the Orange County Register, the Long Beach Press-Telegram, the Los Angeles Times, the Ventura County Star, the San Diego Union-Tribune, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Fresno Bee, the Sacramento Bee, the Mercury News, the East Bay Times and the Orange County Register all have urged a “no” vote on the measure.

XBIZ, in an opinion-editorial, also has urged a “no” vote on Prop 60.
