Young Democrats in L.A., S.F. Vote to Oppose Prop 60

LOS ANGELES — Both the San Francisco Young Democrats and the Los Angeles Young Democrats have voted to oppose Proposition 60.

“We’re glad Young Democrats from across the state are standing up against worker harassment,” said Eric Paul Leue, executive director of the Free Speech Coalition. “Prop 60 is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Adult workers deserve the same privacy and protections as any other California worker.

“While claiming to protect them, Prop 60 opens them up to harassment lawsuits from any resident of the state, regardless of standing, based solely for the type of movies they make. We call on all voters to help us defeat Prop 60.”

The initiative has been opposed by the California Democratic Party, as well as the Democratic Parties of Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego.

In addition to the Young Democrats of SF and LA, the California Democratic Party, and the Democratic Parties of Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego, Proposition 60 has been opposed by the California Republican Party, the California Libertarian Party, the Courage Campaign, the Harvey Milk Democratic Club, the Alice B Toklas LGBT Democratic Club, Equality California, San Francisco Medical Society, AIDS Project LA, SF AIDS Foundation, the LA LGBT Center, the Transgender Law Center, and the performer group APAC, among many, many others.

Over the past month, numerous papers have advocated against the AIDS Healthcare Foundation-sponsored initiative.

The San Diego Union-Tribune, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Fresno Bee, the Sacramento Bee, the Mercury News, the East Bay Times and the Orange County Register all have urged a “no” vote on the proposition. XBIZ's executive editorial director, in an opinion-editorial this week, also urged a “no” vote on Prop 60.
