What It's Like to Bed James Deen: an Amateur Perspective

NEW YORK — Jenn Tisdale, a D.C.-based writer and standup comedian, thought it would be funny to apply to James Deen’s open call on his website for everyday girls to do a scene with him. After being selected only a few hours after submitting her info, she agreed, thinking, at the very least, that she could parlay it into a good story.

And she did. Tisdale’s scene with Deen (she performed under the name Gwen Derringer) went live yesterday — along with a written account of the event’s inception and completion published on Brightest Young Things.

While Tisdale doesn’t heavily dish on the ins and outs (pun intended) of the actual hook-up, she describes the comical and chance steps that led her from her home to a hotel room deliberately chosen to be “as least porntastic as possible.”

Though completely unfamiliar with Deen’s work and overall a porno newbie, Tisdale said she immediately felt comfortable with the crossover super star, who she hung out with in N.Y.C. before the shoot went down. He told her that if there was no sexual chemistry, they could just sit around and joke all day, in a non-naked way. But, after spending a pleasant day together, Tisdale decided to go for it.

She wrote, “We filmed two scenes. In between we talked about comedy and I mentioned liking John Mulaney. So there we sat on the bed, huddled around my laptop watching John Mulaney's special, “New in Town.”

She didn’t supplement the description with any explicit details, but stressed that when Deen left the hotel room she felt “really good” about the experience. The next day, Tisdale began gushing about the ordeal to strangers, who seemed supportive — and excited to see her work.

“If you really break down the idea of porn, it's quite silly that anyone would react negatively to it,” she concluded at the end. “Most of us have sex. A lot of us have used a camera. Some of us have put the two together. At least one of us got paid in money, experience and fun.”
