Kink Documentary to Premiere at Sundance 2013

UTAH — "Kink," a documentary on San Francisco-based fetish studio Kink.com, will have its world premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival as part of its Park City at Midnight program.

The film is directed by Christina Voros ("127 Hours: An Extraordinary View") and co-produced by actor James Franco ("127 Hours") through his production company Rabbit Bandini.

Sundance, which announced its selections on Wednesday, describes "Kink" as a "story of sex, submission and big business." Images from the documentary made their debut on Sundance.org.

The project was first announced by Franco in August of last year during an appearance on Conan O'Brien's TBS talk show. The Oscar-nominated actor gushed to O'Brien about the fetish studio and its headquarters, located in San Francisco's historic Armory building.

"It's at this old armory and they do everything in house; they build the props in house," Franco said. "So I'm making a documentary about that. It's an incredible place."

"Kink" includes interviews with founder Peter Ackworth, his creative team and talent. Earlier this year, Franco starred in IFC Films' "About Cherry," an indie-drama about a teen runaway who finds a home with the pornographers of a Kink-based adult studio in San Francisco.

The 2013 Sundance Film Festival takes place Jan. 17-27 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
