WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — The estate of murdered gay adult film producer Bryan Kocis has won a default judgment against murder suspects Harlow Cuadra and Joseph Kerekes, filed in the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas.

Kocis’ father, Michael, filed the suit on behalf of the estate.

In the civil suit, the pair was accused of having entered Bryan Kocis’ home and of “jointly” or “separately” causing Bryan Kocis’ death, as well as destroying the home and property. The judgment ruled in favor of the estate because neither defendant had responded to the civil suit.

Both Cuadra and Kerekes are currently imprisoned, awaiting trial on capital murder charges for the 2007 death of Kocis.

According to Conrad Falvello, the estate’s attorney, he had not heard from any attorney on behalf of either defendant. Unless a motion is filed to reverse the judgment, the case will proceed to trial to determine damages.

Both defendants claim that they are indigent, and are represented by public defenders in the criminal trial.

However, Falvello said that he has knowledge that the defendants have assets that have been seized. The assets were seized when charges of racketeering, conspiracy to launder money and conspiracy to receive money from the earnings of prostitution were filed against Cuadra and Kerekes in Virginia, last July.

At one time, the pair owned a gay adult video production company.

They stand accused of the murder of Kocis, a rival producer, in an alleged plot to access Kocis’ star contract performer Sean Lockhart, aka Brent Corrigan.

Kocis was stabbed more than 20 times and his remains were found by firefighters that responded to a blaze at the Kocis home, which prosecutors speculate had been set in order to cover up the murder.

The criminal trial is scheduled to begin on Sept. 2.
