Playboy Taps Former Maxim Editor to Lead Online, Mobile
Jimmy Jellineck, who also helped lead Heavy.com, FHM and Stuff, is expected to “leverage the brand and foster a more integrated media experience,” Playboy Chairman and CEO Christie Hefner said.
“Our content libraries include images, art, text and video and we’ve created these over nearly 55 years. The ability to share this content across platforms is actually a relatively new phenomenon,” Hefner said. “As a result each business has over the years developed unique content format and storage systems creating a challenge to search, track and share our assets.”
Hefner remarked about the Jellineck hiring as she explained the adult company’s net loss for its second quarter. The company on Wednesday reported a loss of $2.1 million compared to net income of $1.9 million in the same quarter last year.
Also, revenue fell 14 percent to $73.4 million from $85.7 million.
With the loss, Hefner cited continued pressure on the media businesses as well as the recent sale of assets and outsourcing of operations that were completed earlier this year.
Hefner, however, noted that online ad sales increased significantly during the quarter though details were not available with its earnings release. She also mentioned that it's long-awaited website revamp will be completed later this year, suggesting that will help turn online/mobile category around.
