The PCI Data Security Standard helps ensure the safe handling of sensitive information from payment cards, including preventing, detecting and reacting to security incidents.

Merchants who use SafeCharge and its Card Data Storage feature do not need to maintain a secure credit card number database and can accept credit card transactions without obtaining their own PCI certification.

For credit card transactions — including credit, void, settle and rebill — card data need only be sent once, when submitting the transaction for the first time. SafeCharge then sends a "token" to the merchant that can be used for further transactions to identify customers and their cards.

“We take the strongest measures to remain PCI compliant at all times,” SafeCharge Director of Marketing Sharon Gal-Franko said. "It takes constant effort, but it is rewarded by knowing that our merchants can rely on us for utmost security."

The PCI Security Standards Council was established last year by a group of leading payment brands including American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa International. The council manages the ongoing evolution of the PCI Data Security Standard.
