British Film Board OKs Using Ratings for Movies Online
BBFC certificates are the equivalent of Motion Picture Association of America ratings in the U.S.
U.K. video-on-demand provider Strictly Broadband was the first adult website to join the BBFC online plan, putting nine Zero Tolerance movies online at 11 a.m. London time on May 21 with BBFC certificates. More will be added in the coming weeks.
The voluntary BBFC plan provides some guarantees to webmasters that they will not be prosecuted under existing British legislation regarding the sale of hardcore adult material. Under the new rules, mainstream media companies that have not provided adult content due to legal questions may start offering adult productions to consumers.
