CHICAGO — Thirty years after limited theatrical release in gay movie houses, “The American Adventures of Surelick Holmes,” produced by Hand In Hand Films and directed by Ralph Eli, is being rereleased to DVD by distributor Bijou Video.

The 1971 classic is a hardcore parody, complete with bad acting, a high-camp storyline, and hair and clothing typical of the ’70s.

Featuring David Chandler as Surelick and Frank Massey as Dr. Watson, the title also stars performers Zebedy Colt and Barry Warfel. Scenes include watersports, oral sex and S&M in a fun-filled plotline that allows for one sex scene after another.

Bijou Video, which is the production division of historic Midwestern adult company Bijou World, has access to a vast library of classic gay film titles, dating from the earliest days of gay hardcore.

“The American Adventures of Surelick Holmes” was restored from the original film, then digitized and remastered onto DVD format. New boxcover artwork also was designed for the title.

Bijou has remastered several vintage titles, taking classic films from its catalog and making them available on DVD for the first time.
