Spice XXX Ushers In ‘Downtown’ Style with ‘Rocksuckers’

LOS ANGELES – Spice XXX introduces a new style of adult movies it has coined “downtown” in the punk rock-infused release, “Rocksuckers.” Directed by The Gingerman, who comes from the mainstream music video world, “Rocksuckers releases April 15 through Pulse Distribution.

Spice Studios Executive Producer Bob Johnson told XBIZ that “Rocksuckers” would be the cornerstone of the studio’s “downtown” movement. Backed by a soundtrack from mainstream punk band The Dwarves, “Rocksuckers” is a “mindfuck of all the backstage goings on at a rock concert," according to Johnson.

Johnson explained the “downtown” movement as movies “that have more noir, urban, downtown feel and look.”

“We’ve done a mix of gonzo and features for about three years,” Johnson said. “Recently we decided we wanted to concentrate on one genre of movie, which we identified and coined ‘downtown.’ It’s a more concentrated production value on movies not shot in Porn Valley. This movie has a punk rock aesthetic and really gives the viewer the feel of being at the concert because of the live performances and great soundtrack.”

Johnson said that the “downtown genre” of adult movies figures big into the studio’s plans for 2008.

“The idea is to get top directors doing work for us,” Johnson said. “To that end we’ve got Joanna Angel, Jack the Zipper and Joe Gallant in New York. They will be the vanguard for this ‘downtown’ feel for us.”

“Rocksuckers” stars Roxy DeVille, Justine Joli, Micah Moore, Natalie Minx and more. The movie was shot in high-definition and is being released on HD DVD and Blu-ray disc.

Spice XXX releases two movies per month through Pulse Distribution. The company’s latest bestselling titles are “Sex Cult Scenesters” and “Fugly Betties” directed by Axel Braun, a parody based on the popular ABC comedy series “Ugly Betty.”
