Trial Set for Mississippi Adult Store Arrests

JACKSON, Miss. — Trial has been set for Jan. 8 for two men arrested Oct. 24 at the Adult Video and Books Store in Jackson after sex toys were sold to an undercover officer during a sting operation.

Knowingly selling, advertising, publishing or exhibiting any device designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genitalia is illegal, according to the Mississippi Code.

James K. Salters, who holds the license to the company, and Jayson Paige, an employee at the store, were arrested. Salters was arrested on an outstanding domestic violence warrant and also was charged with two misdemeanor counts of selling sex toys.

Paige told XBIZ he was charged with one misdemeanor count of sales of adult devices, and that he was released on his own recognizance a few hours after he was arrested.

"We have a license from the city that permits us to sell exactly what we're selling," Charles Hobby, a consultant for the store, told XBIZ. "It's a specific license for an adult book and video store. Basically, for whatever reason, I think our city police have derived that any novelty that is operated with batteries is against the state law."

Representatives of the Jackson police department were unavailable for comment.
