Flock Web Browser Promises to Unify Social Networking
The new web browser is called Flock, and it's available for free download at Flock.com in versions for Windows, Mac and Linux.
The browser runs just like Mozilla's Firefox, but with a central core of additional bells and whistles that give users a unified place to update their blogs, upload photos and bookmark favorite sites.
Flock is currently compatible with Flickr, Photobucket, Piczo, YouTube, Blogger, Blogsome, LiveJournal, Typead, Wordpress, Xanga, Del.icio.us and Ma.gnolia.
Flock isn't yet compatible with MySpace and Facebook, although it does offer an easier way to add photos to MySpace comment fields.
Adult industry professionals had mixed reactions to Flock, expressing interest in its potential but disappointment in its lack of compatibility with premier sites like MySpace.
April Storm, director of public relations for Versatile Media Group, told XBIZ she concentrates on MySpace for her online marketing because it takes so much time to log into and update multiple sites.
"We all use MySpace so much," Storm said. "If [Flock] is easy to use like Trilllian, then I'd probably use more sites."
Adult star Joanna Angel promotes herself and her fellow stars on BurningAngel.com through MySpace and, on a more limited level, YouTube. She expressed some interest in Flock, though she doubted if adult stars would need or want the additional automation promised by Flock.
"I don't know if porn stars would care," she told XBIZ. "It sounds a little lazy."
Digital Playground Director of Marketing Adella downloaded Flock and gave it a try.
"I need it to be user-friendly, and right now I'm not getting it," she told XBIZ. "If I understood it, it could be amazing."
