Australian Child Porn Sweep Claims Hundreds of Suspects
According to reports, the homes were raided in a search for computer images of young children being sexually abused. Dozens of suspects have been charged, police announced, including senior defense officials and government employees.
Police have reported that the images in question were of toddlers that had generated from a website controlled by Russian mafia.
More than 700 suspects remain at large as the investigation continues, encompassing private residences throughout the country, police said.
The crackdown was based on a tip from U.S.-based child porn task force Operation Falcon after following the money trail from a Belarus company called RegPay, formally Trustbill, that processed paid memberships to dozens of child porn websites.
