DUSSELDORF — A district court judge here has issued an injunction against German condom maker Einhorn after the company claimed on packaging that its packets of seven condoms “corresponds to up to 21 orgasms.”

Berlin-based Einhorn was hauled into civil court after rival sex toy distributor Cologne’s Fair Squared said that its claim about the orgasms was impossible.

Both condom makers are considered “fair trade” companies, which typically advocate the payment of higher prices to exporters, as well as higher social and environmental standards.

Einhorn’s condom packaging include artist-designed images, and the condoms inside are fairly and sustainably produced in Malaysia, the company said. Einhorn also offers vegan and cruelty-free options.

Einhorn attorneys admit that the slogan is just a line, and obviously is not the truth.

The company, which was founded on the German TV show equivalent to “Shark Tank,” says in marketing materials that its condoms “allow the man to orgasm once and the woman twice.”

But presiding Judge Johanna Brueckner-Hofmann said it is “suited to deception” and could tempt some to use the condoms several times.

The judge emphasized that condoms are medical products and their packaging subject to “particularly strict requirements” and ordered the message to be taken off the packaging.

Einhorn has formally appealed Brueckner-Hofmann’s decision.
