SALT LAKE CITY — By a unanimous vote, Utah state legislators passed a resolution calling on the U.S. Congress to take action to help stop children and employees from accessing pornography.

Rep. Brad Daw, a Republican from Orem, said HCR3 would send a strong message from Utah that the state wants Congress to take action by enacting legislation to “facilitate a technology-based solution allowing parents and employers to obtain Internet access services that exclude adult content.”

State Sen. Curtis Bramble co-sponsored the resolution, which has no legally binding affect on the U.S. Congress.

The resolution called on Congress to take action based on Utah’s findings that many Internet sites that contain pornographic or obscene material operate in the U.S., but outside the borders of Utah.

The resolution also highlighted concerns over the state’s ability to shield its children from adult content, as well as the costs associated with decreased productivity from workers viewing porn on the job, as the driving reasons for the measure.

Gov. Jon Huntsman also lent his support to the resolution.
