ASACP Attends Age Verification Conference

LONDON — The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection has announced its participation in an age verification conference in London, on October 20.

As part of its ongoing commitment to keep the adult entertainment industry clearly informed on the issue of age verification, Vince Charlton, ASACP’s  Director of European Outreach, will attend the inaugural meeting of the U.K.’s Digital Policy Alliance (“DPA”), chaired by Lord Erroll, and to be held at the House of Lords, at Westminster Palace.

The DPA seeks to establish an age verification working group that brings key stakeholders and parliamentarians together to identify how policy and innovation might shape the digital landscape to safeguard digital identity, protect customer privacy, encourage good business practices, and further enhance the online experience.

“With age verification very much on the political agenda in both the U.K. and Europe, it is of paramount importance that regulatory developments that would affect not only EU companies but those outside of the EU wishing to sell digital goods within the region are well understood and influenced,” Charlton explains. “ASACP is delighted to have been invited to be involved in these discussions.”

“The association is honored that Vince was invited to participate in this prestigious event,” ASACP Executive Director Tim Henning stated. “The ‘Wild West’ days of the Internet are fading into history, and for many nations, some form of user age verification is inevitable.”

“This makes it not a matter of ‘if’ but of ‘how’ this vital technology will be implemented,” Henning added. “By adding a mature voice to the discussion on behalf of both the digital media industries and the needs of children, ASACP hopes to see a more sophisticated solution to these challenging regulatory issues.”
