1st Committee Hearing on AB 332 Scheduled for March 19

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Assembly Bill 332 will be heard for the first time by committee at a hearing at the state capitol on Tuesday, March 19.

The piece of legislation was introduced last month by Assemblyman Isadore Hall from Compton, Calif., and mirrors Measure B, which makes condoms mandatory for porn shoots in Los Angeles County.

Hall's new proposal, denounced by adult entertainment trade group Free Speech Coalition and a majority of the industry, would mandate barrier protection for adult productions shot statewide.

It will be the first action taken on the bill since introduced last month by Hall, a Democrat, who announced the proposal at AIDS Healthcare Foundation's headquarters, alongside AHF President Michael Weinstein.

The bill starts off at the Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media legislative committee on Tuesday, March 19, at 9 a.m. The hearing will be available for audio streaming here.

The Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media committee is composed of seven state assembly members, including Ian Calderon, Marie Waldron, Richard Bloom, Cheryl Brown, Jimmy Gomez, Marc Levine and Scott Wilk.

During the committee hearing, Hall will present the bill to the committee and testimony can be heard in opposition or support to the bill based on analysis of the legislation.

The committee then votes by passing the bill, passing the bill as amended, or defeating the bill.

If after several rounds through committees the bill stays alive, it proceeds to the Senate where the procedure is repeated.

If both houses approve the bill, it then goes to the governor for a veto or signing into law.
