More PinkMeth Sites Shut; Operator Plans to Continue Franchise
ADDISON, Texas — The chief operator of revenge porn's PinkMeth doesn't plan to give up despite determined efforts by a Texas attorney to close his franchise for good.
Just this month, Texas attorney Jason Van Dyke was responsible for getting the Somali government, which operates the .so top-level domain, to suspend PinkMeth.so.
And in the past few days, he's been able to persuade Sint Maarten officials to shut down PinkMeth.sx.
Van Dyke also was responsible for the first closure, PinkMeth.com.
Another site, Pink.40oz.org, no longer offers PinkMeth mirrored content as of Wednesday evening and redirects to one that says, "We Are Hidden."
"We will do everything in our power to put a stop to this," Van Dyke told XBIZ. "Even if it means buying up every PinkMeth [variant] domain name."
But PinkMeth's operator, Sae, said that he's adamant on staying in the revenge porn game.
"[W]e're definitely not giving up because an attorney wants $1 million that he most certainly won't get," Sae told XBIZ. "They're making this difficult for them, not for us. We can keep getting domains and even IP addresses. But what's in it for them, specifically Jason Van Dyke?
"I think that his client wants to get herself removed, but her attorney wants us to settle, i.e.: give them $1 million."
Plaintiff Shelby Conklin, in a suit filed by Van Dyke at Denton County Court last year, claims she was victimized by operators of PinkMeth after they obtained "unauthorized access to private social media accounts" and published her naked pics.
Van Dyke said in the suit that PinkMeth' s operators can't claim fair use of any of the images they have misappropriated on their website "because the illegal publication of child pornography and adult pornography [in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2257] can never be lawful."
Conklin seeks damages of more than $1 million for intrusion on seclusion, public disclosure of private facts, appropriation of her name and likeness and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Sae said that he's challenging the decision by Sint Maarten officials to yank the .sx registration based on Van Dyke's request.
"We've responded to the .sx registry, and we're confident they're going to un-suspend the domain name," he said.
Late Wednesday, Sae offered additional details over his company's direction.
"We will have an informational site up on [Thursday]; it'll be in an unrelated datacenter in a different continent, listing latest news, and it will be the only official marketed Pink Meth domain name," he said.
Revenge porn is a recent phenomenon and online category where website operators post nude or erotic images of women or men without their consent on such sites like PinkMeth's. The sites make money off online advertising, particularly well-known dating sites.
Some revenge porn sites, like PinkMeth's, include actual email addresses, cell and home phone numbers, links to Facebook, Pinterest and LinkedIn profiles, and residential addresses displayed for all to see.
