Jurors Expected to Begin Deliberating Isaacs Case on Monday

LOS ANGELES — Jurors are expected to begin deliberating the Ira Isaacs obscenity case Monday morning.

The trial got closer to a conclusion Friday, with U.S. District Judge George King reading final instructions to jurors about how they should go about deciding whether Isaacs is guilty or not guilty.

Preceding closing arguments, jurors were screened four movies, each of which are 90 minutes to two hours long. The playing of the videos  make  up the bulk of his trial, which on Monday will be in its sixth day, in downtown Los Angeles.

On Friday, the fetish film producer and distributor took the stand in defense as his own witness of what he calls his art, which he said drew inspiration from such figures as Marcel Duchamp, Robert Rauschenberg and Franz Kafka.

Isaac said the reaction of viewers, discomfort and revulsion, are intended as his role as "shock artist."  .

"It tries to pose the basic question of 'What is art?' " he said.

On Monday, the eight-man, four-woman jury will begin deciding the case.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the jurors range in age from 29 to 75 and include a teacher, welder and a financial analyst.
