FSC to Host Legal Panel at XBIZ LA With Top Industry Attorneys

LOS ANGELES — XBIZ, The Industry Source, is pleased to announce that adult industry trade association Free Speech Coalition will be hosting a special legal panel featuring renowned legal experts at leading digital media conference XBIZ LA.

According to FSC Board Chair Jeffrey Douglas, who will moderate the panel, the highly anticipated session will discuss the top legal issues that adult entertainment businesses can expect to contend with in 2012 — including patent trolls, emerging TLDs, copyright infringement and evolving OSHA regulations, among other critical topics.

The legal workshop is set to be one of the key highlights of XBIZ LA 2012, slated for Jan. 9-12 at the luxurious Sofitel Hotel in Los Angeles. The event’s premier sponsors include CE Cash, RedPass, PussyCash, Adult Webmaster Empire, EroAdvertising, GTBill, Fleshlight, Signature Card Services and Sofort. XBIZ LA coincides with the blockbuster 10th annual XBIZ Awards show, set for Jan. 10 at the legendary Barker Hangar, and presented by MyFreeCams.com.

The legal panel is scheduled for Jan. 10 at 4 p.m.

FSC Executive Director Diane Duke told XBIZ that with the introduction of new gTLDs and the roll out of .XXX, it is important for adult businesses to understand their options for protecting their brand and traffic.

Beyond this front-burner issue, however, are other concerns.

“Patent trolls have been knocking on the doors of adult businesses trying to leech money out of these companies with bogus patent claims,” Duke explained. “How can we as an industry work together to fight this drain on adult businesses?”

“[And] what is up with mandatory condoms?” she asked. “Who is behind this relentless yet ridiculous effort — is it a city issue, a state issue, or federal?”

The legal panel will address all of these issues and more.

“Is proposed copyright infringement legislation an answer, or a threat, to the adult entertainment industry — or both?” Duke continued. “[If you want to know] what the future looks like for adult production companies, then join FSC in speaking with top legal experts about the issues at the forefront of adult today.”

Some of the top legal minds in the world will be on hand to discuss these subjects, including Paul Cambria, of Lipsitz Green Scime Cambria, LLP; Anthony J. Patek, of Helix IP; Gianni Servodidio of Jenner and Block; Gregory A. Piccionelli of Piccionelli & Sarno; and Gill Sperlein of The Law Offices of Gill Sperlein.

The moderator Douglas is a criminal defense lawyer representing all segments of the adult entertainment industry since 1982. He is Chair of the Board of Directors of the Free Speech Coalition, as well as Chairman Emeritus of the 1st Amendment Lawyers Association.

A nationally recognized spokesperson for the adult entertainment industry, as well as an expert witness, Douglas appears regularly as a media commentator, and on invitation, has testified before Congress. He is also the author of numerous magazine articles.

“XBIZ has a long history of presenting unparalleled legal panels at its adult industry events,” XBIZ Senior Editor Stephen Yagielowicz said. “This year’s event is no exception.”

“With the help of the FSC, XBIZ has assembled a stellar cast of legal experts who will delve into the complexities of the current legal environment and its impact on adult operators,” Yagielowicz added. “The inside information surrounding 2012’s hot-button topics that participants receive in this session alone makes the trip to XBIZ LA a worthwhile investment for adult businesses.”
