China's Porn Crackdown Yielding Results

BEIJING — China’s anti-porn crusade appears to be yielding results. More than 1,300 people have been nabbed for “producing, duplicating, publishing, selling and spreading porn and vulgar information” from December 2009 to October 2010. Five have been sentenced to prison for five years or more.

In February, the Court laid out its interpretation on crimes of spreading obscene content via Internet, mobile WAP sites or telephone information services as China ramped-up its crackdown on online porn.

This summer, an official with the General Administration of Press and Publication — the country's press watchdog — said websites that failed to remove porn fiction would be shut down.
