Illegal Porn Studio Busted in Sofia

SOFIA, Bulgaria — Bulgarian police officers have apprehended a 42-year-old man in Sofia's "Ovcha Kupel" district, where he was running an illegal porn studio.

The man, arrested in his apartment, had been shooting photos and movies with pornographic content, evident by the equipment found in the apartment, officers said.

Police discovered a computer, digital cameras and multiple CDs, video cassettes and photos.

Police said they suspect that some of the women were drugged before the shooting sessions. The suspect allegedly sold the illegal pornographic materials abroad, using the Internet.

The man has been arrested and police say there is a possibility that he may have taken part in an organized crime group, trafficking women to Western Europe.

Last week, Bulgaria also left two men behind bars over a recent child pornography revelation. Venstsislav Dimitrov, the owner of a Sofia music store, and 26-year-old Pavel Petrov from Plovdiv, Bulgaria, were arrested for participating in an international child abuse network.

The network was busted earlier this month by the FBI and the Bulgarian police. The operation uncovered child pornography. Police reports say that the victims included Bulgarian infants.

Seven Bulgarians were handcuffed in connection to the crime. Four worked for the Bulgaria Online Internet provider that hosted the pornographic websites on its free servers. However, the company insists its administrators were unaware of the porn content and that they did not have any personal involvement in the crime.
