HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Current.tv’s online journalism magazine Vanguard put a positive face on the adult industry in a new segment that explores the problems and potential of porn in the 21st century.

The segment, titled "Porn 2.0," includes interviews with several staff members at Kink.com, as well as in-depth interviews with some of the brass at Wicked Pictures, including contract performer Jessica Drake.

Vanguard correspondent Christof Putzel focused on of Kink.com, indirectly praising them for their good business practices and happy employees. Longtime Kink.com director Tomcat revealed that what she saw as a "three-month" gig has turned into a promising career, while Kink Affiliate Manager Terry said that his job doesn't seem like porn at all.

"It’s more, ‘here’s the product, and here’s the customer,’ and bridging that gap however you can,” he said.

In the package, Putzel says that online porn makes $3 billion a year, though he offers no attribution for that figure. At the same time, he offer the striking statistics that every second, 266 new adult websites go live, while every minute, 2 million people look at porn online — with 70 percent of that traffic coming during the standard workday.

But the segment makes a tonal shift when the topic of piracy comes up. Wicked Owner Steve Orenstein notes that video-sharing sites have sapped revenues from adult companies. At the same time, the proliferation of cheap video cameras have brought about the advent of gonzo porn. Drake lamented that development.

“Something that the Internet did do was make a lot of people think they could just pick up a camera and become a director,” she said.

At the same time, though, Drake said that the industry can fight back against piracy with interactivity, specifically the kind of "day in the life of" content that she shoots for her own site.

“I definitrely think it’s the future of the industry," she said. "I think that 100 percent."
