Mike Donner Pens ‘How to Be a Gay Porn Star’

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Writer-director Mike Donner has penned “How to Be a Gay Porn Star,” a comedic instruction manual for aspiring performers and others looking to craft a career in gay adult.

“Each chapter details a specific step in the process, and includes tips, practical ideas from industry stars, and on-set stories from me,” Donner said.

Chapter headings include “Keeping Up Appearances,” which deals with what Donner termed “performance anxiety,” and “Douche You, Lube Me, Baby?” which includes “a practical discussion on lubes and cleansers.”

Additional chapters offer potential performers advice on such subjects as auditioning for a role, and how to handle directors, photographers and agents. Actors Rod Barry, Dean Phoenix and Justin Wells offer their perspective via interviews.

“I wrote this for two reasons,” Donner told XBIZ. “The first is out of respect for the men who take it off for the camera. The second was due to all the faceless, poorly lit amateur crap out there. I wanted to make sure the men I respect had the right tools to become all that they could be.”

Donner said that “horror stories from models about their start in the industry” prompted him, in part, to include advice from vet performers Barry, Phoenix and Wells. “I’ve worked with all three, I respect them all, and they’ve each earned a big place in my heart.”

The how-to manual “guides the newbie through all the steps, and possible missteps, of entering the biz.” He added, “It’s also a great read for the non-porn candidate. It has easy-to-understand language, no big words, lots of humor and photos for the easily bored.”

Over two decades in gay adult, Donner has produced, written and directed more than 200 features. Priced at $12.95, “How to Be a Gay Porn Star” is currently available directly from the author at DonnerInc.com.
