Search in C://Windows/ for your "hosts" file and see if it is interdicting the URL and directing it to your localhost @ 127.0.0.1

"hosts" is a Windows OS system file and part of Win TCP/IP and has no file extension... just "hosts" It maps domain names to IP addresses.

It is normally located in or about C://Windows/system32/drivers/etc.

Open it in notepad. If you find that redtube.com is mapped to 127.0.0.1 just delete that line from the file and save the "hosts" file back to the same place. Then try calling the URL again.

Lots of us, in Win98/98SE days, used to use that file to map crap sites to the localhost IP so the page request did not transmit outside the system, but that file was also suseptable to outside influences and could be changed by way of a script imposed from an external source.

---

On the other hand as you show that you are in India... telcoms could very well be blocking that site by directing all page requests to that URL to localhost. If you do not find it in your "hosts" file try calling it through a proxy.

---

You may have to do both of the above, clean out "hosts" on your own machine and use a proxy.

I have never had Vista installed and won't ever have it. I am using XP and I intend to go straight to Win7 in time. There should be a file and it should be in system32 BUT Vista may not be letting you into it. Try this:

HOWTO: Edit the HOSTS File in Vista

Vista is a bit different from previous versions of Windows. Vista introduced the new User Account Control (UAC) to help protect common users from malicious activities. In doing so, UAC has also hindered productivity. Not only does it ask you to confirm everything you want to do, it blocks your access to edit the HOSTS file. Let’s fix this so you can have complete control of it.

There are two methods to get around this problem:

1. Turn UAC Off

Go to Start > Control Panel. In the top right search box, enter UAC. The search will return 1 result which will let you toggle UAC on or off. Click on the result and uncheck Use UAC… This will require a reboot, but it will save you time in the future.

2. Copy, then overwrite the HOSTS file

Navigate to the etc folder located @ c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\. Copy the HOSTS file to your Desktop and edit it accordingly. Make sure it’s named hosts, not hosts - Copy. Drag it into the etc folder and when you’re asked to overwrite the existing file, say yes.

---

Users of 64-bit versions of Windows Vista cannot open the HOSTS file with a 32-bit editor.

Yup, that's good. Chances are, then, that the network is doing it. If it starts happening again or on other sites try connecting through a proxy and see if there is a difference.
