Dev Depot: Galleria.io — Providing Mobile-Friendly Galleries

Online slideshows today include more than just photos; with videos, audio clips and interactive fare filling out the possibilities of a robust multimedia porn presentation — but as these systems increase in capabilities and complexity, seeking a professional and modular solution becomes a really smart idea.

According to its publisher, Galleria is a responsive JavaScript image gallery framework that simplifies the process of creating beautiful media galleries for the web and for mobile devices — with its latest version called “the result from years of listening, refining, refactoring and testing.”

Today’s savvy surfers need more than old style static image galleries in order to enjoy enhanced erotica across all of the devices they wish to use.

Offering iPhone, iPad and touch support, Galleria enables swipe movements and uses hardware optimized animations for ultra-smooth image browsing on mobile and touch screen devices. Photo galleries, sets and movies are easily pulled from several sources — including Flickr, Picasa, YouTube and others — into a Galleria gallery, with just a few simple lines of code.

Galleria and its “Classic” theme, which is included in Galleria to get you running fast, are open source tools released under an MIT license that contains basically no restrictions whatsoever for free use — even for commercial purposes.

No programming skills will be required for installation and setup. All that is needed is to copy and paste a few lines of code, add some photos or videos, and then receive a fully featured gallery that’s viewable in any modern web browser. There are several ways of adding image data to a gallery, but the simplest is to add some HTML, putting the images inside any container on the site, with titles and description data attributed on the IMG tag.

Galleria is built on top of the jQuery JavaScript framework, which must be included in order for the script to function properly. The company recommends loading jQuery via a content delivery network (CDN) such as that provided by Google — but also notes that users can optionally host their own copy of jQuery.

Ready for responsive environments, reacting to dynamic measures and responding to media queries using simple options, Galleria is based on one core with multiple themes that can be customized to a user’s particular needs. A premium theme section lists all of the official Galleria themes available for purchase for a small fee.

Users have a lot of power in their own hands, however. For example, separate images for thumbnails and full-screen images can be specified, and you can also define the image data as a JSON array. Other features include transition effects, cropping tools and various interaction details for gallery customization, regardless of the theme being used; as well as theme-specific options along with an API simplifying using advanced customizations or building your own theme, with integrated optimization tools to round out the benefits.

If you’re looking for a slick, easy to use and cross platform image and video display option then Galleria may be built just for you. Download it and see for yourself!
